Amateur radio nets are organized on-air gatherings where operators meet at a scheduled time and frequency to communicate in an orderly fashion under the guidance of a net control station. They offer a regular opportunity to practice radio skills, test equipment, and stay sharp on proper operating procedures. For newer operators, nets are often the easiest and most welcoming way to get on the air, build confidence, and grow comfortable behind the mic.
Beyond skill-building, nets help keep the amateur radio community connected. They’re a natural venue for sharing club news, discussing local activities, and keeping operators active and ready. That consistency matters — regular participation builds strong communication habits and ensures both equipment and operators are prepared when amateur radio is needed most.
The Washington County Amateur Radio Club hosts regular nets and welcomes all licensed operators, whether you’ve been on the air for decades or just passed your exam. Membership is not required to check in — if you hold a valid license and can reach the repeater or tune to the scheduled HF frequency, you’re welcome to join. Nets are a great way to meet fellow operators in the area and find your place in the local amateur radio community.
