The Washington County Amateur Radio Club hosts Amateur Radio License Exam Sessions (Volunteer Examiner testing) prior to each monthly club meeting. Anyone interested in earning a new license or upgrading existing privileges is welcome to attend. Membership in the club, or affiliation with any organization, is not required.
Before Your Exam
- Are you ready to schedule an exam, have questions, or need special accommodations? Please contact our Volunteer Examiner (VE) team. All candidates must pre-register prior to exam day in order to reserve a seat.
- All exam candidates must obtain an FCC Registration Number (FRN) and provide it to the testing staff on exam day. For information on obtaining an FRN, please visit the ARRL “What to Bring to an Exam Session” page.
Day of Exam
- All exam candidates will receive contact information for the VE team in advance in case any issues arise on exam day.
- Each exam session requires a $15.00 fee, payable before the exam begins, to cover administrative costs.
- Candidates must present a legal photo identification before the exam is administered. Acceptable forms of photo ID include a state driver’s license, government-issued passport, military or law enforcement photo ID, school photo ID, or a state-issued identification card.
- If a photo ID is not available, candidates must provide two forms of identification. Acceptable examples include a non-photo state ID, birth certificate with official seal, Social Security card, employer wage statement or minor’s work permit, school ID, school or public library card, utility bill, bank statement, other business correspondence that specifically names the candidate, or a postmarked envelope addressed to the candidate at the mailing address to be used on FCC Form 605. For additional information about identification requirements, please visit the ARRL “What to Bring to an Exam Session” page.
After The Exam
- Candidates who successfully pass the Technician Class license exam must pay a $35.00 FCC licensing fee. Once the FCC processes the application, a payment request will be sent to the email address associated with the FCC Registration Number (FRN) provided on exam day. A call sign will not be issued until the FCC fee has been paid.
- The FCC licensing fee does not apply to license upgrades or administrative modifications.
