Technician-Class License Course: June 6-7, 2026

The Washington County Amateur Radio Club (W5AUM) is pleased to announce that it will host its next Amateur (Ham) Radio Technician License Class on June 6-7, 2026.

This two-day course will introduce participants to the fundamentals of amateur radio, including basic electronics, radio operating practices, safety, and the many ways amateur radio operators serve their communities. Designed to take participants from curious beginners to licensed operators in a single weekend, the class provides practical, real-world instruction from experienced local radio operators involved in public service and emergency communications.

At the end of the weekend, attendees will have the opportunity to sit for the FCC Technician-Class Amateur Radio examination and earn their entry-level amateur radio license. The club’s most recent class, held in February 2026, achieved a 100 percent pass rate, with 26 newly licensed operators.

Amateur radio continues to play an important role in communities across the country. In addition to being an engaging technical hobby, licensed amateur radio operators often provide communications support during emergencies, assist with community events, and contribute to public service and disaster response efforts. Many operators also enjoy experimenting with radio technology and communicating with other operators across the nation and around the world.

Whether you are simply curious about amateur radio, interested in emergency preparedness, or have been meaning to get licensed for years, this class is a great way to start. No prior experience with radio or electronics is required. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
